Description

Biphasiс isophane insulin injection I.P. is an injectable agent produced by Novo Nordisk Labs. The active ingredient in the solution is Insulin, a peptide hormone produced naturally by the body’s pancreas. Insulin is used in medicine to treat Diabetes which is a disease where the body doesn’t produce enough Insulin (type 1 diabetes) or even becomes resistant to it (type 2 diabetes). When patients with this condition get high blood sugar, Insulin is prescribed to help to reduce that blood sugar. Biphasic Insulin, commonly called premixed insulin, contains a blend of long-acting and short-acting insulin for more precise blood sugar control.

The effects of Insulin

IMPORTANT: It is vital that you consume a sufficient amount of carbohydrates for 3-6 hours after each Insulin injection, preferably from 3 separate meals, in order to keep your blood sugars at a healthy level. Also do NOT sleep during this time in case your blood sugar drops too low!

Side effects

If you have too much Insulin in your blood, your blood sugar will become too low, causing Hypoglycemia. The initial symptoms of Hypoglycemia are drowsiness, fatigue, irritability, paleness and shakiness.

If any of these symptoms occur, then you need to consume food or drink containing carbohydrates immediately to raise your blood level back up.

In severe cases, Hypoglycemia may result in confusion, blurred vision, seizures, loss of consciousness, a combination of these or may even lead to death. Therefore, it is strongly advised to take this medication according to the directions of a specialist.
